VETERANS VILLAGE – SAVANNAH, GA

Nine Line Foundation is pleased to have taken on a new initiative, to construct a Veterans Village in Savannah, Georgia. We partnered with the Chatham Homeless Authority to take on Phase 1 of their Cove at Dundee Project. This community of 24 homes provides temporary housing to homeless veterans in the area. The community will include a community center and a self-sustaining hydroponics / aquaponics centers, which, in partnership with Georgia Southern University’s FORAM Sustainable Aquaponics Research Center, will train these veterans how to be self-sustaining through farming while also receiving educational ceritification. Nine Line Foundation is also partnering with other nonprofit organizations to provide food, clothing, and counseling to the veterans who participate in the program.

The goal of this initiative is to turn the lives of these veterans around, both immediately and for the long term. This initiative goes beyond providing a roof over the heads of veterans, it will provide them with the skills necessary to reintegrate into society, and to learn and grow as individuals. Simply put, this initiative is about providing healing and support to those who have given so much to this great country.

With the help of our incredible volunteers across the nation, the city of Savannah, and supporters like YOU, we were able to complete Phase 1 of the Veterans Village here in Savannah, Georgia! We will continue to support these veterans through our current intiative: our Aquaponics Training program, in collaboration with Georgia Southern University and Nine Line Apparel, so that these veterans might get a hand up, not just a hand out.

Initial Construction of Veterans Village – October 20th, 2018

Thanks to an overwhelming show of support from our community, we are one step closer to housing homeless veterans here in Savannah. On Saturday, October 20th, over 80 volunteers came out and dedicated their time to laying the groundwork for our Veterans Village project by framing walls and floors for the first phase of the Veterans Village initiative. Sponsors donated food, supplies, water, and more for these volunteers, who worked in the Savannah heat from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

It has been truly humbling to see the outpouring of time and resources towards this initiative. Some volunteers drove from several hours away, just to take part in this one day build, and others brought their children along to man the water stations, while also learning the meaning of giving back. We are truly appreciative of this incredible show of support for our veterans, and we look forward to many more opportunities to bring our community together for future projects like this. We’d also like to recognize the incredible partners and sponsors of this build event, without whom this would not have been possible!
